Description

Title: Teaching Assistant / Instructional Aide

Reports to: Classroom Teacher and Principal

 

Requirements: High School Diploma, Associates Degree, or Bachelor Degree

Preferences: The candidate has worked with children with special needs, especially those on the Autism spectrum or those with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The candidate has a driver's license.

 

Expected Start: Summer Program (July 2024) with potential for full time School Year 2024-2025

 

Scope of Duties:

 

The candidate will:

- Be responsible to, and function under, the directions of the Classroom Teacher.

- Assist the Teacher in the delivery of instruction in, and the implementation of, individualized educational plan (IEP) goals and objectives.

- Assist the Teacher in facilitating students' independence, happiness, social and emotional well-being and awareness, language expression and pragmatics, and appropriate behavior.

- Assist the Teacher in ensuring the safety of students and their inclusion across all settings and environments, including the local community.

- Assist the Teacher in the tracking and collection of data and feedback to alter planning, strategies, and methods as needed.

- Participate in all relevant trainings and professional development as required by the program.

- Participate in routine supervision and feedback opportunities and be evaluated on a yearly basis.

- Carry out any other assigned duties, such as: supervision of students at breakfast, lunch, or in outdoor and community places; support student self-care and personal care, such as toileting; classroom organization tasks; driving of school vans (if applicable); and any other duties as assigned by the Classroom Teacher, Principal, or Executive Director.

 

The candidate must:

- Be able to lift, pull, or push approximately forty (40) pounds, and have the ability to move quickly from the standing-to-floor and floor-to-standing positions.

- Be willing to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students, and engage in crisis and behavior de-escalation and management training (such as Safety Care).

- Pass both SAFIS fingerprinting and CORI screenings in order to be employed.
