Title: Paraprofessional/Teaching Assistant/Instructional Aide
Reports to: Classroom Teacher
Qualifications: High School diploma, Associates or Bachelor's degree. Experience working with children with special needs and middle school aged students preferred.
Scope of Duties:
- Responsible to and functions under the direction of the classroom Teacher.
- Assist the teacher in the delivery of instruction and the implementation of the IEP Goals and objectives.
- Ensure the safety of the children in all environments.
- Assist in facilitating independence, social awareness, language and appropriate behavior.
- Assist the teacher in the inclusion of students with special needs into the mainstream school.
- Assist the teacher in the collection of data.
- Participates in training in relevant areas.
- Carries out other assigned duties, for example; supervise student(s)at lunch or in the playground; clerical tasks, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher, program principal or executive director.
- Must be able to lift, pull or push approximately 40 lbs and have the ability to move quickly from standing to floor and floor to standing.
- Must be willing to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.
