Substitute Food Service Aide

SEEM Collaborative is seeking a dependable and flexible Substitute Food Service Aide to support its schools food service program. This position plays an important role in preparing and serving nutritious breakfast and lunch meals to students with special needs. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing situations, and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming food service environment. The substitute Food Service Aide could be requested to work in any of four school locations in Stoneham, Wakefield, Wilmgton or Woburn.

 

Reports To: Cook Manager and Food Service Director

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with food, cashiering, and children preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of basic methods of preparing and serving food in large quantities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely use standard food service appliances and equipment.
  • Familiarity with school breakfast and lunch program requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and simple record-keeping procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Substitute Food Service Aide will assist with all aspects of the school food service program, including:

  • Assisting with the preparation, cooking, and service of breakfast and lunch for students with special needs.
  • Preparing, serving, and selling food, meals, and snacks in accordance with established procedures and program requirements.
  • Assisting with cashiering and maintaining accurate records, as needed.
  • Maintaining food service facilities and equipment in a neat, clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
  • Preparing food, supplies, and materials needed for the following day of service.
  • Assisting with the cleaning of the kitchen, serving areas, utensils, equipment, and other food service areas.
  • Washing down and cleaning tables following meals.
  • Following all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Schedule

The Food Service Aide position includes work during the regular school year and may include work during the four-week Extended Year Program (EYP).

Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon:

  • Successful completion of ServSafe Certification requirements.
  • Successful completion of a CORI background check.
  • Successful completion of fingerprint-based background screening.
