Qualifications: Knowledge of and ability to adhere to DESE and DPH shcool health standards and regulations. Ability to work with students with a variety of special needs.

 

Responsibilities Include:

Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration and provide care to ill children on a daily basis.

Provide first aid to injured children and staff; provide everyday care of acutely ill children; manage children with communicable disease.

Consult to staff around medication, first aid techniques, hygiene issues, communicable diseases, nutrition education, etc.

Carry out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of bloodborne pathogen exposure and hazardous waste disposal.

Consult with school administrators and school physician in the revision of policies and procedures specific to the health of the student population.

Work with students’ parents/guardians, sending districts, family physicians, the SEEM Collaborative physician and the local board of health in seeing that students’ immunizations are up-to-date and annual examinations and screenings are documented in health records. Oversee and ensure student specific health care plans, medical protocols, medication administration plans, and physian medication orders are up to date.

Communicate with emergency medical service personnel when they respond to on-site emergency situation.

Document student visits to nurse’s office indicating nature of visit.

Work with program principal to provide training to program staff in the areas of CPR, First Aid, field trip medication administration, epi-pen training and emergency procedures.

Works with program principal to implement emergency plan and communicate it to staff and students.

Prepare reports for school officials, MDPH and other agencies describing the services provided by the program, number students served, etc
