Title: Special Education Paraprofessional/ Job Coach


Reports to: Classroom Teacher; Transition Coordinator


Qualifications: High School diploma, Associates or Bachelor degree. Experience working with students with severe disabilities and Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.  


Skills / Requirements:

Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
Required to have prompt, regular attendance 
Must be able to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
Must be able to work independently; follow policies and procedures, implement lesson plans developed by the teacher and record corresponding data   
Must be able to work effectively with interruptions and reprioritize tasks as unexpected circumstances arise
Candidates must be able to remain calm and respond neutrally to redirect students with significantly challenging behavior.
Candidates must have mobility required to sufficiently assist students with disabilities with physical needs, personal care, and behavioral challenges.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. (e.g. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment, lift and position students with physical disabilities). Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 40-50  pounds on an occasional basis and have the ability to move quickly from standing to kneeling and back to standing without using hands to push off the floor. 

 

Responsibilities:

Functions under the direction of the classroom Teacher and/ Transition Coordinator when assigned to job sites.
